Contract with District 19

I PLEDGE A CONTRACT WITH THE PEOPLE OF DISTRICT 19, MY NEIGHBORS, AND AMERICA:

1)      Always defend and protect the United States Constitution.

The constitution of the United States is the top law document of our land.  It gives us our freedoms & liberties, as well as defines our rights and our states’ rights.  When anyone is elected to Congress or the Presidency, they swear to uphold and defend this document against enemies foreign and domestic.  I will always defend and protect the Constitution and will never vote for any bill that violates it.

2)      Unwavering fiscal responsibility. Enact National Debt reduction legislation.

Why do we have to balance our check books at home but Washington doesn’t have to balance theirs?  Our national debt is climbing faster and faster with no plan in sight to reduce it.  It is expected to double in 5 years and triple in 10.  This provides a very strong incentive to do something now rather than do what Congress has done for so many years… ignore the debt and kick the can down the road.  I will get other likeminded congressmen to join me in establishing a balanced budget amendment and legislation to reduce this looming debt.

3)      Expose and eliminate waste and corruption by bringing common sense back to Washington.

Earmarks, “pork” and other pet projects that Congressmen have are wasting away our hard earned dollars, as well as those that are beholden to Special Interest Groups and lobbyists.  Does Washington even get it?  They just passed a HUGE omnibus spending bill completely loaded with garbage.  We have 10% unemployment and they are spending more money??  Will they EVER get it? I do not think so as Congress just passed the “Omnibus” bill that has over 5,000 earmarked projects in it. I will not vote for any bills that add wasteful spending of our District 19 dollars and will not vote for anything that is not in the best interests of our district.

4)      Support and defend Israel, our democratic ally, allowing them to make their own sovereign decisions.

Israel is the land of milk and honey and our one of our greatest allies and friends.  Israel should always know that we have her back, giving her a good sense of security.  At the same time, we should stop meddling in their affairs and telling them what they should be doing.  They’re a sovereign nation and should be treated as one.

5)      Fight for a stronger foreign policy in the face of growing radicalism.

Iran, North Korea, Russia and Al Qaeda are serious threats that would rejoice at our downfall.  Iran and North Korea cannot be allowed to develop and mass produce nuclear weapons as the consequences would be horrific.  If Al Qaeda obtained a nuclear weapon from any of these nations, we would most certainly see a massive loss of life, if not here in the U.S., most likely Israel.  We cannot stand idly by and allow this to happen especially when we have the ability to stop it.

6)      Ensure strong borders and homeland security and reduce illegal immigration.

Our borders are so far from secure and it shows in the anger of the American people.  If we have illegal aliens coming through our borders, how can we say with a straight face that Al Qaeda cannot get into our country?  We need to secure these borders and completely rework our immigration laws to provide ways for folks to come here legally.

7)      Promote intelligent renewable energy initiatives while relying on domestic sources.

Energy independence is not only good for our wallets but mandatory for the security of our nation.  Too long have we poured hundreds of billions of dollars into a region of the world that has openly showed their disdain for us.  By using resources found here at home we can stop supporting radicals in the Middle East and provide jobs here at home.  We can slowly move ourselves completely to renewable energy sources and sell our oil to other countries giving our economy a huge boost.

8)      Protect our senior’s rights. Proper reform needs to augment their benefits, not remove them.

My parents both live here in Boca Raton and I speak to them on a very regular basis.  I will never support any bill that will be detrimental to our seniors, including the proposed 500 Billion dollar reduction in Medicare.  We need to increase our senior benefits and reduce the waste and fraud in both Medicare and Medicaid.

9)      Read every bill and post them online so everyone in District 19 can also read them & comment.

I will join fellow congressmen in demanding that we have at LEAST 72 hours to read any bill before voting.  After all, how can you vote on something if you’re not exactly sure what’s in it?  I will create a website that will post all the bills online and allow YOU to view them and give me your comments/vote.  I want to know how you feel about upcoming bills and I will be down here regularly with town halls to ask you those exact questions.

10)   Vote according to the needs of the people of District 19 without pressure from any Party leaders.

Simply, I am not going to Washington to vote for any party.  I am running with no party affiliation (NPA) because I will not tote any party line.  I will not vote for anything that will be detrimental to this district or its citizens

11)   Support proper Education Reform. Our Children are our real treasure. Testing is not Teaching.

No child left behind may be helping our schools but it’s not helping our students.  Teaching children to take a test and have them regurgitate the information does not indicate any absorption of knowledge; it shows me they can take a test.  Of the children that do graduate school, many are ill prepared for adulthood.

12)   Term Limits.

I strongly believe that if someone is truthful about wanting to be a servant of the people and help their district, then they will self-impose a limit on the number of terms they will hold.  I believe that if you spend too much time in Washington, whether by nature of the system or erosion of ideals, you become part of the problem.  I do not want to spend the rest of my life in Congress.  I will not hold more than 5 terms (10 years), after which I plan on coming back home.

13) Laws regarding Congress

I vow not to vote for any bill that Congress is not held to themselves.  This includes healthcare, pensions, and the automatic raise Congress gets each year.

14) eCongress

As a technology professional, I support the use of a new platform for Congress through web meetings, internet conferences and eCongress.  We need to get Congressmen and women more involved in their Districts, and by keeping them here instead of Washington.  Let's use technology to our advantage instead of paying thousands of dollars for our Congressmen to fly back and forth to Washington.
